Wagering requirement calculator
A deposit bonus is only worth what is left after you play through its wagering requirement. Enter the bonus terms and the game you plan to clear it on, and the calculator shows the turnover required, the expected loss along the way and whether the bonus has positive expected value.

How wagering requirements work
A wagering requirement (also called playthrough or rollover) says how many times you must bet the bonus, or the deposit plus bonus, before you can withdraw. A $500 bonus with 40× wagering on the bonus means $20,000 of bets. A 35× requirement on deposit plus bonus is far heavier: deposit $500, receive $1,000, and you must wager 35 × $1,500 = $52,500.
Turnover is not money lost. You keep cycling the same balance. What you lose on average is the house edge applied to every bet.
Read the terms for the details that change the maths: whether the requirement applies to the bonus or to deposit plus bonus, which games count and at what percentage, the maximum bet allowed while the bonus is active, and how many days you have to finish. A slot counted at 100% and a table game counted at 10% need very different amounts of play.
The expected value formula
The calculator uses three steps:
- Bonus = min(deposit × match %, max bonus).
- Turnover = wagering multiplier × bonus, or × (deposit + bonus) when the requirement covers both.
- Expected loss = turnover × house edge, where house edge = 100% − RTP. Expected value = bonus − expected loss.
Why the game you choose matters most
The same Shuffle-style bonus (200% up to $1,000, 35× deposit plus bonus) on a $500 deposit requires $52,500 of turnover. On a 96% RTP slot the expected loss is $2,100, so the $1,000 bonus has an expected value of −$1,100. On a 99% RTP game the expected loss falls to $525 and the bonus is worth about +$475 on average. Many casinos block or down-weight low-edge games for exactly this reason, so read which games count 100% toward wagering.
Bet size does not change expected loss; it only changes how many bets you place and how fast you finish. Smaller bets lower the chance of busting early but take longer. When the expected loss is larger than your whole balance, most attempts end at zero before the requirement is met, and your actual loss is capped at what you deposited.
Break-even wagering
The break-even multiplier is bonus ÷ (wagering base × edge). For a bonus-only requirement on a 96% RTP slot that is 1 ÷ 0.04 = 25×. Anything above 25× on slots is negative expected value before you place a bet; anything below it gives you a small statistical edge, provided the terms allow the game you use.
FAQ
Wagering Calculator questions
What does 35x wagering mean?
You must place bets totalling 35 times the amount the requirement applies to before withdrawing. On a $1,000 bonus that is $35,000 of bets; on $500 deposit plus $1,000 bonus it is $52,500.
How do I calculate a wagering requirement?
Multiply the bonus (or deposit plus bonus, depending on the terms) by the wagering multiplier to get turnover. Multiply turnover by the house edge to estimate what clearing it will cost on average.
Are casino bonuses worth it?
Only when the bonus is larger than the expected loss of clearing it. On slots with a 4% edge, bonus-only wagering above about 25× is negative expected value.
Does bet size affect wagering?
Not the expected loss. It changes the number of bets and your risk of busting before you finish. Casinos also set a max bet while a bonus is active, often around $5.
Can I clear a bonus on dice or originals?
Check the terms. Many casinos exclude low-edge originals or count them at a reduced percentage toward wagering, because a 1% edge makes most bonuses positive expected value.
