What rakeback means

The term comes from poker, where the house takes a rake from each pot. In a casino, the 'rake' is the house edge: the share of each bet the game keeps on average. Rakeback returns a percentage of that edge to you.

The maths: rakeback = wager × house edge × rakeback rate. $10,000 wagered on 1%-edge originals at 50% rakeback returns $50. The same turnover on 96% RTP slots (4% edge) returns $200, but you also lose four times as much on average.

Rakeback maths by game type

Because rakeback is a share of the house edge, the game you play decides how much it pays. This table uses $20,000 of monthly turnover and the edges from our rakeback calculator.

Slots earn the most rakeback in dollars, but they also cost the most. After 70% rakeback the slot player still loses $240 on average; the dice player loses $60. Rakeback lowers your cost; it never turns it into profit.

Gates, intro rates and boosts

Several rates only apply after a threshold or for a limited time. Stake's 3.5% starts once you have wagered $10,000. BC.Game's 5–15% starts at VIP level 14. Check that your rakeback is working

After your first session, open the rewards, VIP or rakeback section and compare what was credited with your turnover × edge × rate. Small gaps are normal, because casinos apply their own edge per game. A large gap, or nothing at all, usually means the code did not attach at signup or a gate has not been reached yet. A month of rakeback at three volumes

Rakeback or a lower edge?
